Who writes this

Scooter M.. An enthusiast who's genuinely into this. I read the manuals, compile the published specs, and do the math. No lab coat.

That is the whole biography, and the brevity is the point. There is no certification behind this site, no clinical training, no years-in-the-industry claim and no editorial board. What there is, is someone who finds this category genuinely interesting and who would rather do arithmetic than write adjectives.

What this site is

An independent publisher covering home saunas, sauna blankets, cold plunge tubs and chillers for people in small spaces. We compile what manufacturers publish, compute what their products cost to run, and score them on a rubric published in full so you can recompute any number yourself.

It is funded by affiliate commission. If you buy something through a link here, a retailer pays us and you pay the same price you would have anyway. The full disclosure is here, and it includes the pages where we earn nothing and say so.

What this site is not

We have not tested these products. We do not own them, we do not have a lab, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Not one figure on this site comes from a measurement we took.

That admission usually arrives on a site like this as an apology tucked into a footer. Here it is the position. Every competitor on this search with real authority also has a testing facility and credentialed reviewers, and six of the eight biggest roundups in the category pair the word “best” with a hands-on testing claim. We cannot match that honestly, so we compete somewhere else.

What we do instead

This is the part that belongs in the same eyeline as the admission above, because “we have not tested these” only earns your trust if the next sentence tells you what we did.

  • Read 44 product listings line by line on 2026-09-07 - the title, every feature bullet and the full specification table - and recorded what each seller publishes and what they leave blank. Every figure on this site carries a line saying where it came from.
  • Computed the running cost of every product that publishes a wattage, from the current US residential electricity rate, with the arithmetic shown. Across eleven competitor pages read during our research, there were eight passing mentions of running cost and not one published figure or method.
  • Printed “Not published” where a figure does not exist, rather than an estimate. That is how we found 14 powered products whose sellers never state how much power they draw.
  • Cited primary sources - the EIA for electricity rates, the CPSC for the 2025 sauna blanket recall, peer-reviewed meta-analyses for anything about physiology.

That approach found things a test lab would not have gone looking for: two cold plunge tubs that publish two different capacities on the same page, a chiller listed at the same wattage as its own half-size sibling, and a category-wide EMF vocabulary in which almost nobody puts a number behind the word.

What we will never do

  • Claim to have tested, owned or handled a product we have not.
  • Invent a price, a rating, a review count or a specification.
  • Accept a free product or a sponsored placement.
  • Publish a testimonial or a review of ourselves. We have no customers.
  • Claim a credential, a qualification or a length of experience that is not real.

The state of the site

39 articles across seven sections, plus the trust pages, built around 44 products in a typed registry. Roundups and comparisons are reviewed quarterly; a recall or safety notice is a same-week priority.

Getting in touch

info@contrastden.com is the only email address on this site. If you find an error - a spec we read wrong, a figure that has changed, a product that has been discontinued - send it and we will check it against the source. Corrections appear on the page, dated, rather than as silent edits. There is a form here if you prefer.
