How this site is funded

Last updated

Contrast Den earns affiliate commission. When you buy something through a link on this site, the retailer pays us a percentage of the sale. You pay exactly the same price you would have paid anyway. It costs you nothing and it is how this site exists.

The Amazon Associates statement

As an Amazon Associate, Contrast Den earns from qualifying purchases. Our Associates tracking identifier is contrastden-20, and it is applied by our own /go resolver rather than being written into page content, which is why you will not see a tagged Amazon URL anywhere in this site’s source.

What we are paid on, and what we are not

Today, Amazon is the only retailer we hold an affiliate relationship with. We have joined no CJ advertisers and no Awin programs, and we will not build a tracking link for a program we have not joined - not even for a brand whose program exists publicly.

The practical consequence shows up on a few pages, and we flag it at the top of each of them rather than burying it:

  • Titan Wellness and VITAL+ sell direct. We earn nothing from those pages and they carry no buy button.
  • BON CHARGE does not appear to sell its blanket on Amazon. We earn nothing on that side of the comparison, which we say in the first paragraph of the page.
Naming the pages we cannot be paid on is unusual, and it is deliberate. A comparison written by a site that can only be paid on one side of it has an obvious pull, and the honest response is to make the pull visible rather than to pretend it is not there.

Commission does not affect rank order

Every ranking on this site comes from a published 100-point rubric computed from figures the seller published. The inputs are small-space fit, electrical fit, running cost, key-number disclosure, spec completeness and warranty. Commission rate is not an input, and there is no code path by which it could be.

Two things follow that you can check for yourself. The most expensive and best-known sauna blanket on the market finishes last in our roundup. And every roundup on this site names at least one product we recommend against, with the reason - a roundup where everything is recommended is an advertisement.

Prices

Prices on this site render only from a live retailer data layer with a 48-hour freshness gate. When the layer has no fresh price for a product, the button reads “Check price on Amazon” rather than showing a number that has gone stale. We have never typed a price into page content and the content model is built so that we cannot.

Every price that does render carries the date it was verified. Retail prices change constantly and any figure you see here should be treated as a snapshot rather than a quote.

Product images and links

Product photographs come from the retailer’s own data. Outbound commercial links carry rel="sponsored nofollow noopener" in line with Google’s link-spam policy, open in a new tab, and route through our /go resolver, which is excluded from indexing.

Links to sources - the EIA, the CPSC, peer-reviewed journals - are never cloaked and never affiliate links. We do not put a redirect between you and a primary source.

What we do not accept

  • Free products. Accepting one forfeits the claim that we have never been given anything, and that claim is worth more than the unit.
  • Sponsored placements. No brand has paid for a position on this site and none will.
  • Paid reviews or paid links. Neither incoming nor outgoing.
