The questions that come before a purchase
Everything here is written to the same standard as the product pages: every figure has a source and a date, arithmetic is shown rather than asserted, and where the published research does not support a popular claim, we say so rather than repeating it.
Where the evidence is strong, and where it is not
Cold water immersion has a real and growing research literature, and it does not say what most sites claim it says. A systematic review published in PLOS ONE in January 2025, pooling 11 randomized controlled trials and 3,177 participants, found:
The dosing question
A 2025 network meta-analysis in Frontiers in Physiology compared combinations of immersion temperature and duration directly, and ranked 10 to 15 minutes at 11 to 15 C (about 52 to 59 F) best for muscle soreness, and 10 to 15 minutes at 5 to 10 C (about 41 to 50 F) best for biochemical markers and neuromuscular function.
Two things are worth noticing about those figures. The temperatures are warmer than the sub-40 water people chase, and the durations are far longer than the ninety seconds most home plungers do. If you have been assuming colder and shorter is better, the published dosing work does not support the assumption - the temperature guide has the bands and what each one changes.
The running-cost dataset
Across eleven competitor pages read during this site’s research phase, there were eight passing mentions of kilowatt-hours or running cost and not one published figure or method. For a category where a unit draws 1,000 to 2,500 W and the buyer is spending four figures, that is a genuine gap.

The short version is that heat is cents and cold is dollars, and the difference is larger than anyone expects.
The comparison guides
Four pages here answer “X versus Y” questions, and each one exists because the two things being compared are not actually equivalent:

When to cold plunge handles timing, including the one timing question with real evidence behind it - cold immersion immediately after resistance training appears to blunt some of the adaptive response, so separate them by several hours or move the plunge to rest days.
What these guides will not do
They will not tell you that any of this will make you healthier. We are not clinicians, we hold no qualifications, and the literature is younger and more mixed than the marketing suggests - six of the eleven trials in that 2025 review examined a single immersion, which the authors note prevents conclusions about long-term effects, and only one included female participants.
