Start with the capacity problem
That is not a minor pedantry. A 1/3 HP chiller rated for 79 gallons is a plausible match for 140 gallons and badly undersized for 216, and an undersized chiller runs continuously without ever reaching setpoint - which costs more in electricity than the correct one would have. Our reading of the pattern is that spec-table fields in this category are frequently left at defaults or filled in by someone who never saw the product, while the description is written by marketing. When the two disagree, neither has been verified, and the honest response is to treat the whole sheet as approximate and measure your own fill.
Drop-stitch is structure. Foam is insulation.
Almost every listing here leads with drop-stitch construction, and it is worth understanding what that buys you. Drop-stitch means thousands of threads holding the inner and outer wall at a fixed distance, so the wall stays flat under pressure rather than bulging into a ring. Inflated to six to eight PSI - a figure exactly one listing publishes - it is genuinely board-stiff, and it is the same technology used in stand-up paddleboards.
It is a structural property. It does not tell you the tub holds cold. For that you want a foam layer in the wall stack, and exactly one listing publishes its stack in order: PVC, mesh fabric, drop-stitch, mesh fabric, EPE foam, PVC and waterproof coating. The foam is the fifth of those seven and it is the one doing the insulating.
Where the heat actually gets in
Most of it comes through the open water surface, not the walls. That is why a clamped insulated lid does more for your ice consumption - or your chiller’s run time - than an extra layer of foam in the sidewall, and why we treat a lid that clamps rather than rests as a specification rather than an accessory.
If you take one buying rule from this page, make it that one. It is cheap, every decent tub includes it, and it is the difference between a chiller cycling for two hours a day and six.
Ports, and the second purchase nobody budgets for
If there is any chance you will add a chiller within a year, buy a tub with real ports now. What to look for, in order of usefulness:
- A named thread standard. “G1/2 inch” or “0.5 inch female inlet and 0.5 inch water outlet”. This is what lets you check compatibility before the chiller arrives, rather than after.
- Ports that double as a drain. A hundred gallons weighs about 830 pounds. It is not being tipped.
- An honest note when a conversion kit is required. One tub here says so in capitals rather than implying ports are included, which is a second purchase and better to know about now.
Volume is a running cost
The least-discussed decision in this category is how much water you actually need. Chilling 84 gallons takes roughly a third less energy than 129 and about 60 percent less than 216, for the same temperature drop - and afterwards the chiller has proportionally less thermal mass to hold against the room.
If you plunge alone and you are under about six foot two, the extra volume in a larger tub is water you are paying to keep cold for no benefit. The weight column also matters if the tub is going on a balcony - that page has the full arithmetic.
How these are scored
The same six components used across this site. This is the only tub in the roundup that publishes an operating temperature range for the material itself, and it is the sort of number that separates a manufacturer from a re-brander. Minus four to 140 F tells you the walls will not go brittle if you leave the tub on a balcony through a frost, which is exactly the failure mode a renter with an outdoor plunge should worry about.
It also names the chiller ports by standard: G1/2 inch, with adapters. Most listings say 'chiller compatible' and leave you to discover the thread size after the chiller arrives. Naming all seven layers in order is the most detailed construction disclosure in this roundup, and the layer that matters is the EPE foam. Foam is insulation; drop-stitch is structure. A tub with drop-stitch and no foam layer is rigid but not especially insulating, and plenty of listings here describe drop-stitch walls in a way that invites you to assume otherwise.

The connection points are explicitly rated for heaters as well as chillers, which is the detail that makes this a year-round purchase rather than a summer one. A floor temperature and the time to reach it, published together, is the complete version of the claim and it is rare. Thirty-seven Fahrenheit in under four hours for 88 gallons is a specific, falsifiable statement, and it is the only one like it in this roundup.
The footprint is the surprise: 33.5 inches square, under eight square feet, because it is a round tub rather than a full-length oval. You sit upright rather than reclining, which some people prefer and some find claustrophobic, and it is the reason this fits on a balcony where a 59-inch oval does not.
The chiller draw is not published, which is the gap. The unit is specified for AC 100 to 130 V, 60 Hz, and 0.8 HP suggests a load in the high hundreds of watts, but suggesting is not publishing and we will not put a number to it. Volume is the variable nobody thinks about until the first electricity bill or the third bag of ice. The pitch here is specifically about warm climates: double-layer insulation and a reinforced thermal lid to hold temperature 'even in warm climates'. If you are plunging on a balcony in Phoenix in July, that is the variable that decides how much ice you buy, and it is worth more than twenty extra gallons of capacity.

Start with the contradiction, because it changes how you should read everything else on the listing. The title says 216 gallons. The spec table on the same page says 140 gallons. Those are not roundings of each other. We report both because both are published, and we are not going to pick the flattering one on the seller's behalf.
It matters practically, not just as a point of principle: capacity is what sizes your chiller. A 1/3 HP unit rated for 79 gallons is a reasonable match for 140 and badly undersized for 216, and buying the wrong one is a few hundred dollars you do not get back. If you buy this tub, fill it once with a measured hose and find out.
Setting that aside, the physical specification is strong - a 59 inch oval, the same external size as the VEVOR, with a clamped insulated lid and a fiberglass-reinforced wall. The genuinely useful disclosure here is the user limit: six foot six and 350 pounds. Tubs are sold on capacity in gallons, which tells you almost nothing about whether you fit, and a stated height and weight limit is the number a large buyer actually needs. Very few listings publish it.
