LifeTrend is not sold on Amazon and we earn nothing from this page. It is also the first brand-direct plunge we have covered that publishes a wattage, which changes what we can tell you.

Read this first
There is one reason this page can do more than the other brand-direct pages on this site. LifeTrend publishes a chiller wattage. None of the three brand-direct plunges we have covered does: Titan publishes a daily running-cost estimate with no wattage, rate or duty cycle behind it, Vital publishes no rated wattage at all, and Fire publishes neither a wattage nor a cost. A published wattage means the running cost stops being a claim and becomes arithmetic that you can check and adjust to your own tariff.
What LifeTrend publishes for the Classic
Two of those rows are unusually good. Publishing inner dimensions is rare across this whole category - most sellers give you the outside of the tub and leave you to guess how much of it is wall - and it is the figure that decides whether you fit. Our page on plunges for tall people exists because so few listings publish it. Publishing the chiller’s own dimensions and weight is the other one: that is the box that has to live beside the tub, and its footprint is part of the purchase.
The pairing also passes the sizing check we apply to everything else. A 0.5 HP chiller on a 105-gallon tub sits exactly at the bottom of the half-horsepower band described in how to size a chiller, where 1/2 HP units are typically rated for 105 to 150 gallons. The brand has not undersized its own chiller to make a price, which is more than can be said for some kits.
The running cost, computed rather than claimed
At 1,200 W and the current US residential average of 18.34 cents per kWh:
Every input in that table is named, which is the whole point. Substitute your own rate and the answer changes in a way you can follow. That is the difference between this and a brand quoting “about a dollar a day” with nothing behind it - and it is why our method page publishes the formula rather than the answer.
For context, 1,200 W is at the higher end of what this category draws. The PlungeFit drop-in below publishes the same 1,200 W and therefore the same 22 cents an hour. The AS ColdPlunge, a 1/3 HP unit, publishes 600 W, which is 11 cents an hour - half the cost, for a chiller rated to a 79-gallon tub rather than a larger one. The range is confusing, and the models are not variants of each other
LifeTrend is not one product. The Classic is a drop-stitch tub with a bolt-on chiller. The Alta is a rigid hot-and-cold spa: a galvanized steel frame, polyfoam insulation, a Balboa chiller and heater, a Gecko circulation pump, a 50 square foot filtration system and a UV ozonator, published at 37 F to 102 F and a dry weight of 293 lb.
The counterintuitive part is the water. The Alta measures 77 by 31.5 by 30 inches and holds 61 gallons. The Classic is far smaller on the outside and holds 105 gallons. A rigid spa spends its volume on shell, seat, step and equipment; an insulated bag spends almost all of it on water. If your reason for buying is immersion depth rather than a heater and a touchscreen, the cheaper product holds more water - and that is the sort of thing a spec sheet tells you and a showroom does not.
What is not published
- A warranty term for the Classic. The listings link to a manufacturer warranty document instead of stating the length. The Alta is listed at one year limited.
- The tub’s weight. The chiller’s weight is published; the tub’s is not. Filled, 105 gallons of water alone is about 875 lb, which is the number that decides what it can stand on.
- A noise figure. No decibel rating for a compressor that will run beside the tub. One chiller in our own roundup publishes 30 to 40 dB; most publish nothing.
- Amperage or plug type. The supply voltage is published and the setup is described as plug-and-play, but at 1,200 W on a 110-115 V supply this draws roughly 10.4 to 10.9 amps, which is most of what a 15 A circuit will carry continuously. Check what else is on that circuit.
What we deliberately will not tell you
- Whether it is better than the alternatives. We have used none of them.
- Build quality, noise or reliability. Not observable from a listing.
- An owner rating. We do not reproduce ratings anywhere on this site.
- A current price. These are third-party retailer prices across several sellers, and we cannot refresh them daily the way the live layer refreshes Amazon. The brackets in our FAQ are what we read on one day, at three sellers, and refurbished units were listed alongside new ones at a fraction of the price.
If you want something you can buy through us
The Classic is a tub, a cover and a chiller in one box, so the Amazon equivalent is assembled from two purchases. The COSTWAY XL is the tub: 129 gallons, seven named wall layers and a cover included, which is the best-documented tub construction we found. The PlungeFit drop-in is the closest chiller on draw - the same published 1,200 W, so the same 22 cents an hour - and it needs no hoses at all. The AS ColdPlunge is the cheaper-to-run route at 600 W, with a submersible pump in the box, if your tub is nearer 79 gallons than 129.

No electrical load. This draws no power of its own. The running cost of a plunge lives in the chiller, or in the bag of ice.
Naming all seven layers in order is the most detailed construction disclosure in this roundup, and the layer that matters is the EPE foam. Foam is insulation; drop-stitch is structure. A tub with drop-stitch and no foam layer is rigid but not especially insulating, and plenty of listings here describe drop-stitch walls in a way that invites you to assume otherwise.
The ports are specified as half-inch female inlet and half-inch outlet, which matches the standard most chillers ship with. Between that and the foam layer this is a tub built for a chiller from the start rather than one that merely tolerates the idea.
At 51 by 29.5 inches it is one of the more compact full-immersion tubs here - about ten and a half square feet - and it folds into a backpack rather than a duffel. If the plunge has to disappear when guests come over, that matters more than the extra twenty gallons a larger tub buys you.
Buy it if
A buyer who wants insulation, not just rigidity, and wants to read the layer stack before deciding.
Skip it if
You are over about six feet two. The published length is 51 inches.

Direct-in-water cooling removes the entire plumbing problem: no ports, no hoses, no pump priming, no leak points. For a renter, that also removes the part of a cold plunge setup most likely to put water on a floor you do not own.
It costs you in power. At 1,200 W this is twenty-two cents an hour at full draw and, in the theoretical case of running continuously for a month, about a hundred and sixty dollars. It will not run continuously - it cycles to hold a setpoint like any refrigeration - but among the chillers here it is at the expensive end and the 280 W Pod Company unit is at the other.
The 150-gallon rating and the 39 F floor are both genuine capability. If you have a large tub and you want it properly cold rather than merely cool, this is a reasonable pairing, and the WiFi scheduling means you can have it chill overnight on a cheaper tariff if your utility has one.

A renter who wants no plumbing and is prepared to pay for it in electricity.

The submersible pump is what makes this the bathtub answer. A chiller normally needs a tub with inlet and outlet ports; a bathtub has neither. Dropping a pump into the water and running two hoses over the rim is inelegant and it works, and it is the cheapest route to a cold plunge for anyone who cannot give up floor space for a tub at all.
Six hundred watts is eleven cents an hour at full draw, comfortably mid-range here. The 79-gallon rating is a good match for a standard bathtub, which holds somewhere between 40 and 80 gallons at plunge depth.
The reusable metal mesh filter rather than disposable cartridges is a genuine running-cost detail that gets ignored because it is not electricity. Cartridge filters are a recurring purchase; a rinsable metal screen is not, and over a year that difference is larger than the difference in power draw between two chillers.

Questions people actually ask
Is the LifeTrend cold plunge sold on Amazon?
Not as far as we could establish. Searching Amazon for the brand on 19 September 2026 returned chillers and tubs from other sellers only. LifeTrend is sold through Costco, Wayfair and specialty fitness retailers, so we hold no affiliate relationship with it and earn nothing whether you buy one or not.
How cold does the LifeTrend Classic get?
Retailer listings publish a range of 37 F to 77 F for the Classic, cooled by a 0.5 HP, 1,200 W chiller. The 37 F floor is close to the coldest figure published by any chiller in our own roundup, which is 36 F. The Classic has no heater; the Alta model adds one and publishes a range of 37 F to 102 F.
What does a LifeTrend cold plunge cost to run?
This is the rare brand-direct plunge where that question has a real answer, because the chiller wattage is published. At 1,200 W and the US residential average of 18.34 cents per kWh, it is 22 cents an hour at full draw - about $40 a month at six hours a day, and $161 a month as an absolute 24/7 upper bound. A chiller cycles once it reaches temperature, so treat those as ceilings.
How much does a LifeTrend cold plunge cost?
It spans a wide range by model and retailer. We saw the Classic listed refurbished in the mid five hundreds against a list price in the low nine hundreds, while the Alta, a hot and cold unit, was listed at about nine thousand dollars at a specialty retailer. Those are third-party retailer prices we cannot refresh daily the way our live layer refreshes Amazon prices, so check the seller before relying on any of them.
What warranty does the LifeTrend Classic come with?
The retailer listings we read for the Classic do not state a term. They link to a manufacturer warranty document rather than publishing the length on the page. The Alta model is listed with a 1-year limited warranty and optional 2- or 3-year extensions. If you are buying the Classic, get the term confirmed in writing before you order.
