Low EMF vs full spectrum: two claims that get confused
One is about the field around the element. The other is about the light coming off it. They are sold in the same sentence and they have nothing to do with each other.

Two different physical properties
They get sold together because they are both technical-sounding reassurances aimed at the same buyer, and because a listing that says “low EMF full spectrum infrared” reads as more engineered than one that says “it gets hot”. Separating them is the first step to working out which, if either, has been substantiated.
What each one actually refers to
The full spectrum claim, examined
Full spectrum means near, mid and far infrared together. The three bands penetrate tissue differently, which is the basis of the marketing: near infrared is claimed to reach deeper, far infrared to heat more superficially and produce more sweat.
The problem is that almost nothing in the consumer category publishes its bands. Across eight sauna blankets and twelve portable saunas we read, the only wavelength figures published anywhere were on red light therapy panels bolted into sauna tents - 660 nm and 850 nm - and those are not the heating elements at all. They are separate lamps, and they are covered in portable saunas with red light therapy.
Why they trade off, sometimes
There is a real engineering reason these two claims sometimes pull against each other. Low EMF designs typically use particular winding patterns to cancel fields, and heating element design is a set of compromises between field cancellation, even heat distribution, durability and cost.
We are not going to tell you where any specific product sits on those trade-offs, because that would require teardowns we have not done. What we can say is that a manufacturer claiming to have optimized everything simultaneously, without publishing a figure for any of it, has not given you a reason to believe them.
How to buy on either claim
If low EMF is your criterion: buy from the small set that publishes a figure with a unit, and accept that even those are missing the measurement distance. The two that qualify are here.
If wavelength is your criterion: the heating elements will not help you, because nobody publishes their bands. A dedicated red light panel with a published wavelength and irradiance is a better purchase than a sauna claiming full spectrum, and it is a different product.
If both are your criteria: nothing on this site satisfies both. That is not us being difficult - it is what twenty listings actually contain.

This is the only blanket in the roundup where the EMF claim comes with a number and a unit attached: 0.0 mG, described as measured and third-party safety tested. That is meaningfully better than the phrase every other seller prints, and it is the single reason this blanket scores where it does.
It is still an incomplete figure, and we score it as one. A magnetic field reading is meaningless without the distance it was taken at, because the field falls away sharply with distance - a reading at the surface of a heating element and a reading two feet away are different numbers describing the same appliance. Healix does not publish the distance, so the figure cannot be reproduced or compared against another maker's.
The rest of the listing is unusually plain-spoken about what to expect: a 15 to 20 minute warm-up, light sweating in the first session and a full sweat by around the fifth to seventh. Whether or not that matches your experience, publishing an adaptation curve at all is more than most sellers attempt, and it is the kind of detail that makes a listing feel written by someone who has used the product.

A buyer for whom EMF is the deciding question and who wants at least a number to argue with rather than a slogan.

These are maximums, assuming continuous draw. A resistive heater pulls its rated power only while the element is energized; once it reaches setpoint it cycles, so the real figure is lower and depends on your room. Most sauna tents advertising light therapy ship a seven-color LED strip, which is mood lighting. This one publishes actual wavelengths - 660 nm visible red and 850 nm near-infrared - which are the two figures the red-light literature is written around. Publishing the wavelength is the minimum bar for the claim to mean anything, and it is a bar most of this category does not clear.
The steamer is 1,300 W, which is 10.8 amps. That is over the 1,000 W line where we start telling people to give the sauna its own outlet, and comfortably under the 1,440 W continuous limit of a 15 A circuit. Thirty minutes costs about twelve cents at the national average rate.
The listing also notes the steamer has passed IEC 60335 and UL 499 testing, which are the relevant appliance safety standards for household heating equipment. That is a checkable claim about a named standard rather than a generic assurance, and it is rare enough in this category to be worth mentioning.
Buy it if
Someone who wants heat and red light in one purchase and wants the wavelengths published.
Skip it if
You want dry heat. This is a steam unit with a light panel, not an infrared cabin.

The listing states 'Plug in at 110v', which sounds trivial and is not: it is the only electrical specification published by any sauna blanket in this roundup. It does not get you to a running cost, because voltage without current or power is not enough, but it does confirm the thing a renter needs confirmed, which is that this plugs into a normal wall outlet.
At 23.7 pounds this is the heaviest blanket here, and the listing frames the weight as evidence of material quality rather than apologizing for it. Whether you agree, it is a fact you can plan around - a blanket you have to lift onto a bed every session is a different daily proposition from one at fourteen pounds.
The EMF wording is 'ZERO EMF/LOW ELF', which is a stronger claim than most and still carries no number. Claiming zero without a measurement is the weakest form of a strong claim, and we score it exactly the same as 'low EMF' because it is equally unverifiable.

Someone who wants a heavier, more substantial blanket and cares about material quality.

Questions people actually ask
What is the difference between low EMF and full spectrum?
Low EMF is a claim about the electric and magnetic fields produced by the heating element's wiring. Full spectrum is a claim about the infrared wavelengths the element emits - near, mid and far. They describe different physical properties and a product can have either, both or neither.
Is full spectrum infrared better?
It depends on a claim almost no consumer product substantiates. Full spectrum means near, mid and far infrared together, and each band penetrates differently. A product claiming full spectrum without publishing its wavelength bands has told you a marketing phrase. One publishing 660 nm and 850 nm figures has at least named something checkable.
Do sauna blankets emit far infrared?
Almost every sauna blanket listing describes its heating as far infrared carbon fiber, which is consistent with how resistive carbon elements behave at these temperatures. None of the ones we read publishes a wavelength band or an emissivity figure, so the claim is plausible and unverified.
Can a sauna be both low EMF and full spectrum?
Yes, in principle - they are independent properties. Whether any specific product is both is a different question, and across every listing we read, not one publishes both a complete EMF figure and a wavelength band. Claiming both without substantiating either is the norm in this category.
